My work explores nature; most particularly birds through the medium of drawing and ceramics. The surface of the clay becomes a blank canvas for drawings that are illustrative and decorative. The ceramic pieces tell stories of fragility and freedom.
Birds have been studied for many years by ornithologists: creatures of fascination, they are admired, examined and portrayed through art. Alone or in flocks, birds can effortlessly conjure beauty through pattern, shape and form.
My work strives to capture the essence of the birds; I study different species in detail: from life and from books, using various techniques to uncover elements of these intriguing creatures. . .
